About Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton
Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton’s extensive strengths and experience has prepared her well for her seat on the County Legislature. She is particularly resolute in her focus on financial oversight and responsibility, protecting our environment and the well being of seniors, veterans and children.
To ensure that her constituents are optimally represented, Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton serves on several important committees:
• Ranking Member of the Health & Social Services and Public Safety committees
• Member of the Rules, Towns, Villages & Cities and Veterans & Senior Affairs committees
Before being elected to the Nassau County Legislature, DeRiggi-Whitton served two terms as a member of the Glen Cove City Council. As a Councilwoman, she worked to ensure that the City budget was properly balanced, met regularly with department heads to foster budget compliance, and fought hard against tax increases. She was the Council's liaison to the City's Senior Citizens Center and Senior Advisory Board member.
Delia serves on the board of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRI). She is also a member of Kiwanis International and the Sons of Italy, and volunteers for many other non-profit organization efforts.
A lifelong resident and 1986 Glen Cove High School graduate, she became the school's first all-county softball pitcher, pitching a no-hitter to lead her team to the 1985 county championship, a feat that has not been duplicated.
A graduate of Hofstra University, DeRiggi-Whitton has three daughters and is proud of her parents, Hon. Donald DeRiggi and Dr. Mildred DeRiggi.
