Today we had a very successful Breast Cancer Screening Day. By teaming up with the Charles Evens Center we were able to break a record on the number of people we have had screened. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the team at NUMC made a real difference today in Glen Cove.

Congratulations to the Sea Cliff Arts Council on your three-year anniversary! On Friday, I had the pleasure of attending Paint Sea Cliff: A Plein Air Event and interacting with the artists and musicians who bring the world around us alive through their talents.

Congratulations to St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center on the grand opening of your new heart center in East Hills! We are so fortunate to have this acclaimed leader in heart care right here in Nassau County, and I am thrilled that they are expanding their reach with an off-campus site that boasts an ambulatory care suite for cardiovascular patients a dedicated cardiac imaging suite, and more.

Pride in Port. Always a great time to focus on all the wonderful parts of Port Washington, and this year especially Rachel Fox.

Sea Cliff - 8:30 AM

This morning, the Village of Sea Cliff hosted its annual Sept. 11 memorial service, paying tribute to the nearly 3,000 people who were killed on this day 24 years ago. It is always heartening to see the Village's commitment to ensuring that the victims and heroes are never forgotten, and that we will always stand with every person who continues to struggle in the aftermath of the terror attacks. #NeverForget

Manorhaven - 12:00 PM

The Village of Manorhaven's September 11 observance is always such a meaningful gathering where we honor the victims of the terror attacks that changed the world 24 years ago and renew our commitment to help all who are battling 9/11 related illnesses. Thank you to Mayor John S Popeleski for always organizing a moving tribute that brings our community together to reflect and remember. #neverforget

Glen Cove - 6:30 PM

Congratulations to Residents Forward on your inaugural #PortWashington Art Walk! It was amazing to see Upper Main Street transform into a walkable canvas - and I appreciated a chance to add my own touches to the creativity. Hats off to Mindy Germain, the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District, and all of the creative people who made this so special.

The #GlenCove Anglers Club always does such a great job working with the City of Glen Cove Office of the Mayor in hosting their annual Snapper Derby - and this year's installment was no exception! It's a wonderful tradition for our youth that we all look forward to each year, and I thank the Anglers and the Glen Cove DPW for the hard work that makes this such a success year after year.

Thank you to the nearly 100 people who braved the weather last Thursday to join us for our NYS Emergency Preparedness Workshop at the Sea Cliff Fire Department ! Attendees learned how to prepare for any type of natural or man-made disaster and how to recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions. Everyone left with a fully stocked Citizen Preparedness Corps response starter kit - and more importantly, the knowledge they need to protect their families.

On Monday, we honored Nassau County Police Department Detectives Dave Ekstrom John Mitchell and Jack Sheehan. They were named July’s Nassau County Detectives' Assoc. Legislative #TopCops for conducting a more than monthlong investigation that led to an arrest in a murder case at a Bethpage hotel. Through their hard work, they unearthed a multi-state conspiracy involving out-of-state hitmen, brought five people to justice for their heinous acts, and delivered justice for the victim and his family.

We recently celebrated David Pearson's legacy by dedicating the new playground at the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club at Lincoln House in his honor. Congratulations to everyone at the Boys and Girls Club for all they do to enrich the lives of our next generation of leaders! Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce
