Crescent Beach Opening

On Friday, City of Glen Cove Office of the Mayor and I will be holding a press conference at Crescent Beach to announce that after 17 losing years, Crescent Beach will once again be open for swimming- and we would love for YOU to join us to mark this special occasion!

Crescent Beach is a staple of our Glen Cove community, where I myself once taught swimming lessons! Generations of our neighbors have made and shared memories here, and Friday marks the opportunity for a new generation to experience this beautiful treasure right in our backyard.

I would like to thank the Mayors of Glen Cove, who for 17 years, regardless of party, have all worked to make this day possible, along with my colleagues from the Glen Cove city council, and now at the Nassau County Legislature. This collaborative effort would not have been complete, though, without the cooperation and investment of the local residents around Crescent Beach, who were instrumental in helping make the improvements necessary to combat the runoff issue that has plagued us for so long.

This is a personally impactful day for me, as a Glen Cove resident, former lifeguard and city councilwoman, and as a Legislator for Glen Cove, that we have been able to bring this beautiful piece of our community back to a state all of our residents can truly fully enjoy, for this summer and so many to come. I hope to see you all this Friday to mark this fabulous occasion!

Sheriff's Office Memorial Service

This morning, members of the Minority Caucus joined with their colleagues in law enforcement and government to pay tribute to the Corrections officers who were killed in the line of duty or lost their lives while in active service to the Sheriff’s department.

Thank you to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office, leaders of Nassau Coba and the Correction Officers Benevolent Association Widow's & Children's Fund for hosting a dignified and beautiful ceremony that ensures the hard work and sacrifices made by these brave men and women will always be remembered.

Restore Fairness to E-Bike Laws

Proud to stand with Legislator Olena Nicks & the caucus Monday to unveil legislation that updates outdated e-bike and scooter laws. Our proposal preserves public safety and protects residents from unfair fines and confiscation of their property. As families get squeezed by rising costs, government should be helping people save money, not punishing them for choosing low-cost transportation. I urge the Majority to join us in supporting a proposal that restore fairness and clarity to the law.

Joseph Melillo Speaks at Legislature Meeting

We had the pleasure of hearing from Joseph Melillo, National Employer and Business Relations director for the Helen Keller National Center for DeafBlind Youths and Adults.
Their Comprehensive Vocational Rehabilitation Program (CVRP) brings participants from across the country to #SandsPoint, where they receive individualized training in adaptive technology, vocational services, orientation and mobility, communication, and independent living. The Helen Keller National Center is the only national program providing comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services to youth over age 16 and working-age adults and seniors over age 55 with combined hearing and vision loss.
It is something I am very proud to have here in Nassau County, and I encourage everyone to support their continued success by promoting the program and providing opportunities for these outstanding men and women to gain hands-on workforce experiences.

Crescent Beach Opens for Bathing Summer 2026

2026 04 02 Crescent BeachBREAKING NEWS - After many years of hard work, Crescent Beach - one of the North Shore's most spectacular beaches - will be open for bathing this summer!
Reopening Crescent Beach has been my personal goal for the last 17 years, and this project to protect our environmental and improve our quality of life has been a tremendous group effort. Since joining the Legislature, my office helped to secure nearly $1 million in County-level bond authorization to fund critical improvements - and I am thrilled that the residents of Glen Cove will be able to fully enjoy it for generations to come.

L.I. Herald Op-Ed

Februrary 26, 2026

2025 02 26 Article

For #ThrowbackThursday, I wanted to reflect on my recent op-ed in the L.I. Herald regarding the insertion of political motives into governance here in Nassau County, specifically as it pertains to contracts doled out by this County Executive to politically connected outside legal firms. My colleagues on the other side of the aisle have, in my view, been grievously remiss in our duty as Legislators to scrutinize the necessity of these expensive contracts, at the taxpayers expense.

Glen Cove Senior Center Celebrates February Birthdays

February 22, 2025

On Friday, we celebrated Glen Cove’s February birthdays at the monthly Glen Cove Senior Center birthday celebration. I was humbled and honored to have my birthday celebrated as well, and it was amazing to get to celebrate in the company of some of my neighbors who I’ve grown to call friends.

I’ve been very proud to celebrate birthdays at the Glen Cove senior center every month for nearly two decades. I started this monthly celebration when I served on the Glen Cove City Council, and I have been immensely privileged to continue to be able to this wholesome and rewarding tradition as Nassau County Legislator. Being among my neighbors so consistently is a great reminder of the value of the work I am so humbled to be able to do on behalf of my neighbors. To all of my fellow February birthdays, the shortest month of the year is also the sweetest, so enjoy the rest of your birthday month!2025 02 20 GC Birthdays 2174 Peter Budraitis Photo

Plant A Row for th Hungry

February 4, 2026

I joined Plant A Row for the Hungry, Port Washington for their annual garden exhibit display.

I was very proud this past summer to secure Plant a Row $50,000 in federal ARPA grant money to help support the great work they do. This exhibit is proof positive of how deserving this organization, led by the great Marv Makofsky, has been with their tireless dedication to helping serve the people in our community who rely on their assistance.

It is always a pleasure to see Plant a Row thrive, and I am very proud to always stand in support of them and their hard work!

Bob Praver Turns 100!

October 26, 2025
2025 10 26 BirthdayHappy 100th birthday to the incomparable Bob Praver - a true pillar of #GlenCove!
He's a World War II veteran, a tireless community advocate who spearheaded the renovation and redesign of the Children's Memorial Garden of the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County, and an outstanding writer and editor who puts the final look at all of my newsletters and op-eds before they go out.
Bob inspires all of us, and I wish him many happy, healthy returns on this amazing milestone!
