Talked with dave in Independence he told me to do Yahoo search on Onyx mine in Panamint Valley . DV Journal has the story about history of the mine BLM did make a deal to have buildings removed by company that owns Biggis operation. it did not say when but building had been removed as part of a deal. Long live Sage Brush Rebellion old school Nevada group from the 70's.

Those buildings were gone long before Briggs opened, so I'd take that story with a few hundred grains of salt.

Very nice trip report! Thank for sharing it. Your words of wisdom regarding preparation and adequate vehicles are points that should be well considered, especially for folks unfamiliar with the area. It's too easy for things to go sideways when least expected.

BTW Delights has a beautiful outdoor swimming pool that finally opened. The county took one year to give the go ahead to open. Wesley and April are running the family business at Delights and have micro brewery with some food.

sounds like a great trip. We are heading that way in 3 weeks. We always visit the Onyx mine opposite (west) of Ballarat. There use to be buildings and a store selling rock samples. Rock or George to me that when Briggs mine opened Blm made a deal with them to take down the old buildings in exchange for letting them build a bigger road to the mine. Not sure how true story is. still need to get up to World Beater mine before I you know what. will be 75 soon and I think my 4 wheelin days are almost done for (back issues) SVJ
